An unwelcoming guest.

                       An unwelcoming guest.

Guess who’s coming for dinner?
Like a dog with a bone, there is a squirrel with a nut.
The guest decided that vacation wouldn’t be perfect without him.
After a 9 hour drive up the coast to Owl’s head, Maine..we thought we would settle in.
First thing...  was our cargo box busted..both locks had rotted..
so the solution was to take a chainsaw or calm down and purchase a dremel to open it up.
Then as we settled into the house we saw what looked like a ball of stuffing for a pillow above the door frame?
While it seemed strange we went on with the moving of suitcases and such until we heard scratching and noises..
Right above our heads was a squirrel..running the path of the water pipes..
it noisily jumped around above our heads and then took off to the kitchen where we saw its little tail overt our broom swing and ran into a small hole..
We realized then that the stuffing above the door frame was not for a pillow.. but for the squirrel's home.
We were at the cottage for about a week and were hoping that we could capture the vermin in a have a heart box we purchased.
Each daily morning at 5 a.m., that squirrel who was chased out to its natural element let us know that we were in his house by voicing his contempt on the evergreen branches right near our bedroom window.
I had hope that we would catch it and place it somewhere further away and there would be peace.
Each day the squirrel was driven to somehow get back in and be chased out..then complain at dawn.
Perhaps the squirrel was too smart for the have a heart box ..
My patience was worn and by the end of the week I was ready to ….“not have a heart”.
I started thinking that my Uncle Corky was right to eat squirrel sandwiches and that my old dog Lacey would come back from the rainbow bridge and catch it for her dinner.
Alas, the week went fast and we enjoyed the view even if our furry guest chose to crash our vacation.
At end of week we packed our stuff back into our car and left the squirrel there.
Maybe it will send us a signed postcard stating,
“Wish you were here."
